Vous lisez : At last ‒ standards of practice for head-hunters!

Head-hunter members of the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés must now comply with specific standards of practice when recruiting candidates.

Everyone has their own story about a botched recruitment. There’s the candidate who never hears a word after sending in an application, the recruiter who breaches client confidentiality, the head-hunter who sends CVs to a company simply to put a spoke in the wheels of the competitor who received the mandate, and so on.

By creating a code of conduct for executive search consultants, the Ordre’s intention is to provide them with a supervisory framework that will help protect organizations working with these professionals as well as the general public. “Sometimes people act as head-hunters without any knowledge of some of the basic principles underlying the profession. They lack the appropriate structure to recruit and place candidates properly, which is why it’s important for us to more effectively oversee this field of expertise,” explains Florent Francoeur, CHRP, Ordre president and CEO.

Established after consultations with a number of specialists, the standards set out in the code of conduct have two objectives:
  • To guide head-hunters in their practice;
  • To serve as a reference for candidates or clients working with head-hunters.
Job seekers, workers and companies can decide to work with a head-hunter who is one of the Ordre’s 8,500 members and as such can offer clients additional protection. “It’s a seal of quality for clients, who have access to certain recourses if they aren’t satisfied,” continues Francoeur.

Conflicts of interest, confidentiality and transparency are just some of the issues the code of conduct addresses. View the code, our FAQs and related videos at www.portailrh.org/codedeconduite (in French only).

It should be noted that this code of conduct does not apply to employment agencies.
