Vous lisez : A CROP-ORHRI survey reveals that Quebec workers now consider paternity leave an accepted practice

According to a May 2007 CROP survey conducted in anticipation of Father’s Day for the l’Ordre des CRHA et CRIA du Québec (ORHRI), just 18 months after it was introduced, paternity leave is viewed as accepted practice by Quebec workers.

The survey also indicates that more than nine workers out of ten (94%) are aware that paternity leave is now available. In addition, 56% said they knew someone at work who had taken advantage of this type of leave. Under the new Quebec Parental Insurance Plan, which came into force on January 1, 2006, employees and self-employed workers are entitled to five weeks of paternity leave. During this period, fathers receive exclusive benefits amounting to 70% of their average weekly earnings. Open-minded workplaces…
Interestingly, 87% of respondents think their workplace has a positive attitude to male workers taking paternity leave. “This figure clearly indicates that Quebec workplaces are becoming increasingly open and aware of measures to promote a healthy balance between work and family responsibilities, for both men and women,” commented Florent Francoeur, CHRP, Ordre President and CEO.
